Two weeks ago Thread fabric store opened in downtown Florence, Alabama in a large, narrow building with simple, cream walls and a rustic, hardwood floor, but the shelves are stocked with rows of vibrant colors in every shade and hue—a cheery, inspirational invitation to create. Located on North Court Street, the adorable shop just recently opened its doors and is run by incredibly talented individuals who want nothing more than to empower and encourage each of their customers to create. While Thread sells a wide range of independent patterns, sewing and craft books, supplies for every sewing projects, and of course designers fabrics—their goal is not just to provide quality products, but to inspire others to make something that is a lasting reminder to the talent and originality that lies within us all.

Walking through the front doors of Thread sparks the imagination and opens up the possibility to dream. If you lack inspiration at home, all you have to do is wander around this charming store for a few minutes to come up with fresh ways to improve your wardrobe or home décor. From the moment you arrive you are greeted with a vibrant array of stylish fabric that can be used to decorate, make garments, quilt, or craft. And anyone who doubts their talent or experience need not worry, because the friendly staff is readily available to answer any questions about the right fabric to choose to craft your creation or how to complete your construction. However, this fabric store isn’t just for experts in sewing, but for those just embarking on their first project. They offer one-on-one help as well as group sewing and quilting classes in the back of their shop in the sewing studio, which features tables set up with sewing machines as well as space to pattern, cut, and design your project. They want to foster a community of sewists and crafters by providing a hub for everyone at every level to have a safe space to challenge themselves to create, ask questions, and construct something they are proud of.

And if you’re unsure of where to start, look no further than one of the many clubs and socials they 

offer within the store. Each month look for Tutorial Tuesday, a free class that offers a step-by-step guide to sewing a new craft. Those who make their reservation to attend receive 15% off 54” wide fabric and have a ton of fun in the process. This month participants will learn how to sew a simple, stylish tote bag that can be used every day. In addition, the Coffee and Thread Club meets the 3^rd Wednesday of every month and provides a time where sewists and crafters can bring their latest project to work on. Finally, the Alabama Makers Modern Quilt Guild meets every first Thursday, and on First Fridays they have an open sewing at Sit-N-Sew. Each group is a great way to meet other people who are just as passionate about the art of sewing and creating. Coming up on Friday, March 4^th until 9:00pm, they will be having their New Location Celebration and “Fabric” cutting. Refreshments will be provided as well as open sewing, where you can bring your own machine or reserve one of theirs!
