Rivertown Coffee Company
Located in the heart of downtown Florence, Alabama is
Rivertown Coffee Company, a quaint, friendly coffee shop in the Shoals area. Just
this past year they celebrated their 10 year anniversary and established themselves as Florence’s beloved coffee shop. This is the place where anyone, young
or old, can take a break, relax, enjoy a drink or meal, and feel right at
home. Visiting Rivertown feels like walking down the street to have
coffee with a friendly neighbor. Owned by John and Jan Cartwright, they love
the residents of the Shoals and are eager to serve and provide high-quality
coffee in a comfortable environment.
If you blink you might miss the entrance to Rivertown on
Seminary Street, just a quick walk from Court Street and Wilson Park, but the
modest entrance hosts a coffee shop full of vibrancy, originality, and local
charm. Upon entering you are greeted by friendly staff eager to take your order
at the counter, which displays the everyday coffee and drink options, daily
specials, and yummy baked goods; and everything is delicious. Tables and chairs
are spread out across the cozy accommodations, making it a perfect place to
meet for a business lunch, study session, or to curl up in the corner with a
good book.
While Rivertown has a menu that hosts soups and sandwiches
at lunch and unique pizzas at dinner, they are always trying to reinvent themselves
and find something fresh and new to bring to the Florence foodie scene. They
have been partnering with local vendors such as Odette and Jack-o-lantern Farms
to take their menu options to the next level; not only are you getting tasty,
creative food choices, but the ingredients arrive from just a few minutes down
the road. In addition, their coffee is from Muletown Coffee out of Columbia,
Tennessee, which takes pride in providing “ethically sourced” coffee beans.
Whether you order a black or iced coffee, or go for
something a little sweeter, everything tastes and smells delicious at this
idyllic spot. In addition, Rivertown carries craft beers and a weekly wine
special that can be enjoyed at lunch or as a late night treat on a special date
night. With all the many festivals coming up, including First Friday’s,
Rivertown is the perfect, casual stop for that quick pizza fix and beverage
while you’re out and about. Occasionally, this local shop serves as a live
music venue and once a month on Tuesday’s at 6:00pm the Beer and Book club meet to
discuss their latest read.
The owner and founder of the favorite coffee spot maintains
his presence in the kitchen where he helps prepare the food and genuinely cares
about his community. John Cartwright has diligently and humbly kept this local
treasure running over the last decade. A true artist in his own right, he puts
time and effort into his craft and has created a lasting tradition in the
Shoals area. This bustling coffee shop is more than just a place to get a cup
of joe--it’s “where everybody knows your name” and where you will run into
people you know and love in the community. Rivertown Coffee Co. is a lasting example of everything that
is good about Florence, Alabama.
